Surface Area of Cube Tutors
Surface Area of Cube Tutors A cube is a closed solid geometric figure which has 3 dimensions, and hence it is known as a 3-dimensional geometric shape. A cube consists of 6 faces and every side of a cube is equal to each other. Therefore a cube is said to have all congruent faces and sides and each face is a square. The total surface area of a cube can be calculated by finding the area of each square face and adding all the areas together. Example 1: What is the total surface area of the cube if the side of the cube is 4m? Given the side length of the cube, s = 4m Since its a 3-dimensional geometric shape, it has 6 surfaces where each surface is a square of equal sides. Hence area of each surface = (side length)2 Area of each surface = (4m)2 = 16m2 There are 6 surfaces in a cube, hence = 6 * s2 = 6 * 16m2 = 96m2 Hence the total surface area of the cube = 96m2 Example 2: What is the total surface area of the cube if the side of the cube is 10m? Given the side length of the cube, s = 10m A cube has 6 surfaces and each surface is a square of equal sides. Hence area of each surface = (side length)2 Area of each surface = (10m)2 = 100m2 There are 6 surfaces in a cube, hence = 6 * s2 = 6 * 100m2 = 600m2 Hence the total surface area of the cube = 600m2
A-Level students explore Chemistry at UCL
A-Level students explore Chemistry at UCL Every year the Tutorfair Foundation runs a Chemistry Enrichment Programme for A-Level students at the UCL Chemistry Department. The event took place over two days in March and gave pupils the chance to explore Chemistry outside of the classroom. 164 students and 8 staff members from 10 schools took part in the programme. The day started with a gripping lecture on the 3 kinds of spectroscopy (IR, MS, and NMR), led by Dr. Robert Palgrave. The Chemistry lab session After the lecture, students undertook a spectroscopy investigation in the laboratories (the highlight of the event!). This involved using cutting edge lab equipment for the sample preparation. For the aspiring chemists, the Chemistry Enrichment Programme provides them with valuable insights into the subject and what studying chemistry at university might be like. âThe lab session was fantastic. Iâve had a great time investigating spectroscopy!â, A-Level student, Leyton Sixth Form. Exploring mercury (Hg) In the afternoon, Professor Andrea Sella mesmerised everyone with a fantastic lecture on Mercury that left everyone in awe of âHgâ and its evolution. âThank you for having us for your Chemistry Enrichment Program. Students were very positive about their experience. The lab session was excellent as it allowed students to experience working in a real chemistry lab. Students also got a feel of what it would be like to study chemistry at university!â Head of Science, Oaklands School. Does your child need help with English language - ALOHA Mind Math
Does your child need help with English language As your toddler starts growing up, the way in which sheâs going to start speaking and later on reading and writing English is always a priority on a parentâs mind. Here are some ways you can help your child learn English: No baby talk â" It has been advised by child experts for a while now, that the best way for your child to start learning a language is to hear it from you. This means no booboos and geegaws at least from your mouth. As she keeps hearing the structure of the language, her first words and sentences will also be based on the sort of language you use around her. Teach with play â" As your child starts showing comprehension towards language, there are many interesting ways you can teach him to start speaking and increase his vocabulary along the way. Starting with picture books and educational DVDs to even using apps on your phone for word and picture recognition, you can make it all into a fun game and your kiddo will not even realize that heâs absorbing all these new words as he enjoys all the colorful and playful means of learning. Once you get to the stage of reading too, by using means like phonics and sounds, your child will be delighted to start understanding all those squiggles on paper that she used to depend on you to read for her. Writing tools â" Children today start using magic markers and whiteboards with ease, and installing one of these in the room will encourage them to start experimenting. Once they start writing itâs an encouraging medium to try out new letters without the constriction of writing between the lines. There are also smaller boards available for younger children that have an easy erasing mechanism and can be reused with ease even by themselves. Books â" Even with all the electronic media around, there is no replacement for a book in the hand. If your child sees you reading, thatâs the best way to inculcate the habit in her too. Once she starts reading books, the job of making her proficient in English is nearly done, without you needing to even spend too much time on it. You can just keep watching as her vocabulary grows every day and she throws an interesting new word at you during your conversations. These are some points you can use to help your child to find a better way of communication. As your child grows up, you will find that a good knowledge of English forms a great base to bring about your childâs development too. ALOHAs English program is designed to provide students with learning techniques and information that is beyond the school curriculum. Los Angeles Tutoring Tips 5 Study Habits That Help Every Student - TutorNerds
Los Angeles Tutoring Tips 5 Study Habits That Help Every Student - TutorNerds Tips From a Private Los Angeles Tutor: 5 study habits that help every student Every student, regardless of age, can benefit from improving their study habits and becoming more efficient. Today students from K-12 are spending more time on at-home assignments and less time enjoying family, friends, and outdoor activities. Although each learner may need to refine their study habits to meet their personal needs and academic goals, there are some universal study habits that tend to help every student become a better learner and eventually have more time to do the things they love Our private Los Angeles tutors will help you develop productive study habits. 1. Detailed organization A healthy amount of organization really is the key to success when it comes to homework. So many students cant remember which assignments are worth a lot of points or when they need to be handed in and end up losing points or even lowering their overall GPA. Although a few kids are naturally organized, most children need a lot of help to become an organized individual and the skill is something that is best developed over a long period of time. Parents, classroom teachers, and tutors can help kids become organized but, eventually, itll be up to the student to determine how much organization they need in order to be successful. 2. Advanced preparation Advanced preparation is another essential tool when it comes to having great study habits. Time management is something that most students need to work on, especially when they become overwhelmed with academic transitions such as adjusting from the 5th to 6th grade or during the college prep years, when essays and test prep demand pretty much all of a studentâs free time. Younger students often need a lot of reminding and corrections in order to help them stay on top of things but its good to let them adjust to being prepared and responsible on their own so that they know how to function independently once in high school and college (READ: Orange County Tutoring Tips: Get Back Into the Swing of Things After Spring Break) . 3. Realistic goals Its also important for students to set realistic goals when it comes to study habits. Its impossible to study for AP subjects, complete test prep activities, and finish a five page paper all in one evening, but lots of students attempt to do this. For the most part they become overwhelmed and the important activities are left unfinished. Part of setting realistic goals is to prioritize assignments based on due dates or overall importance and set aside a reasonable number of hours for study each night. Students with realistic goals also tend to feel like theyve accomplished more than students who try to burn the candle at both ends. 4. Looking at assignments with fresh eyes Many students need to finish assignments or study a particular subject into the later hours of the evening, especially during midterms and finals week. However, its important that students look at the final version of their assignment with a fresh pair of eyes in the morning before handing it in. Tired eyes dont pick up smaller mistakes and details that might end up lowering the overall quality of a paper or project, but a re-energized student can usually proofread or edit pretty quickly. 5. Balance between work and play Students can also benefit from having a healthy work/life balance so that they view their study time as a neutral or positive activity. Many students dont mind studying as long as they have time to do the fun things they enjoy, such as having dinner with friends or going out to a movie. Even adults strive continuously to achieve a work/life balance so we cant expect students to achieve this skill right away but they should work towards a good balance of work and play. Complete Your Language Tower A Babbel Review
Complete Your Language Tower A Babbel Review Complete Your Language Tower: A Babbel Review Imagine a world where we all spoke one language.According to a biblical tale, this was once said to be true.Long story short, when the Tower of Babel was being built, God abruptly interrupted the building process one day and took the one language that everyone spoke and turned it into many different languages. The reason was apparently related to humans committing blasphemy. This ultimately created a divide amongst the people, who then branched out with other same-speaking people to colonize different parts of the world. The language learning platform Babbel (not Babel) is a pun on this poetic conceptâ"an origin story very apt for language learners today! So, does Babbel succeed in providing an effective platform for learning a new language?Lets do a Babbel review and find out! This post includes affiliate links that will earn us a commission if you click on them and make a purchase (at no additional cost to you). All products and services are thoroughly tested. We provide an honest rev iew based on our experience and not influenced by commissions. Whats Babbel?Babbel is a premium language learning platform available on both desktop and mobile devices such as Android and iOS. Established in 2007, the German company currently offers 14 different languages, with courses ranging from beginner to intermediate levels.Whats the Babbel Method?Babbel addresses the four essential skills for language acquisition: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Babbel does this by engaging the learner through several different exercises based on a curriculum created by the companys very own team of linguists.Like many other language platforms, Babbel focuses heavily on visual and auditory stimulus and doesnt provide live conversational practice or in-depth, real-world content, as FluentU does.Complete Your Language Tower: A Babbel ReviewThe Pros of Learning with BabbelYoull Jump in at the Deep EndWhile it would be an overstatement to say that Babbel begins with challenging conte nt from the get-go (#itdoesnt), it does resist the temptation to spoon-feed learners like theyre in kindergarten.New concepts are introduced regularly and at a quicker rate than many other language learning platforms. This, however, can make the user feel as though theyre a hamster trying to keep up with a wheel (at least it did for me).Another feature that sets it apart from other platforms in this respect is that theres more flexibility in moving around the courses. Rather than declaring puritanically that you cant study current affairs before aquatic life, Babbel takes a relaxed, laissez-faire approachâ"something more in line with natural language acquisition.Babbel also doesnt shy away from giving learners a good old fashioned grammar point even as a beginner, which is extremely useful and surprisingly digestible. Finally, the way that new alphabets are introduced is great for helping learners acquire this essential know-how before they start crying and give up altogether out of frustration.Ive tried on more than one occasion to learn the Cyrillic script from the same tea-stained library book to no avail, but Babbel really came through. Within a half an hour or so of the Russian course, I learned a respectable amount of the alphabet and could actually remember how to pronounce letters within basic words.Youll Receive Novelty GiftsWe all like a nice photo, dont we? A memorable snapshot of a moment in time that has been captured forever. What about that time you learned the word for neighbor in Spanish? Babbel gives you a souvenir of that too, so if youre a visual learner, youre really going to appreciate the extra aide-memoire to help you out. Add the audio pronunciation tool, and youve got a trifecta of things going on for a unit of vocabulary. Not only is this really helpful for retention in the long run (the more memories and associations we have for a word, the more likely we are to remember it), theres a novelty about it that will really pique and ho ld your interest (it did mine, anyway). Novelty in language learning is so important, again for retention, but also for inspiring motivation to continue. Without it, our brains get bored. When testing the platform, I really appreciated the little details within the dialogues, like the funny little quips and intrigues, such as the inference of a love triangle in one of the courses. You Wont Have to Go Sellin Your SoulLanguage learners come from a mixture of backgrounds, all wanting a slice of the pie for different reasons. In terms of pricing, if we could give Babbel a gender, hed be a gentleman. While some have the means to be able to pay a large sum upfront for yearly access, many cannot. Language learning resources can be expensive, and sometimes youre asked to pay before you know whether you even like the program or not.Apart from a free trial, you can choose several plans depending on your financial situation. The monthly fee starts at $13 and is very reasonable, especially if you think of it in terms of coffee from your favorite local coffee shop. Can you afford three cups of coffee a month? Then you can afford Babbel. So, you dont have to sell your soul after all (or your cow, or your magic beans) just to learn a new language. The Cons of Learning with BabbelEurocentric FocusedMost useful world languagescome out, come out wherever you are!Useful is a vague adjective to describe a language. Itll come as no surprise, though, that some languages do carry more scope in terms of employment desirability, the number of global speakers, et cetera. In order for a language learning platform to stay competitive, its important to keep up with current language learning trends and demands. In reviewing Babbels language options, it was immediately apparent that some of the up-and-coming world languages were nowhere to be seen, such as Chinese, Arabic and Hindi (amongst others).Babbel is a Eurocentric platform, which is great if the language you want to learn falls into that category; but thats not the case for all global language learners today.Lacking in the Area of Design and TechnologyAlthough I enjoyed Babbels design and technology, and the visual aid components, I do feel theres still room for improvement.Learning a language a hundred years ago was vastly different from language learning today, and so we can safely assume that a hundred years from now, its going to be totally different too.Technology is constantly advancing, and the science behind language learning is developing too.Although Babbel has made improvements since it first began, it could be a little more up-to-date and imaginative in the area of design and technology.Missing an Eye for DetailThere are a few small but distracting issues. When introducing vocabulary, many of the courses included native pronunciations that werent as clear as they could be.Of course, users want to know what a word or phrase sounds like when its expressed naturally (after all, thats how youre going to hear it in the real world); but when learning, hearing the word or phrase spoken slowly and well-articulated is vital at first.Testing a learners understanding is necessary, but not when the target language itself is not the focus. There were exercises and features that were reminiscent of a high school language class. Too much time was focused on talking or giving explanations in the learners native language as opposed to actually spending time learning the target language. An example of this that occurred when using Babbel was an exercise where the user was asked to drag and drop English words (instead of the target language) into blank spaces to assess comprehension. So, Whats the Verdict?Overall, Babbel is a useful and inexpensive supplement for language learners. Will it help you to become fluent? No, but thats not its intention in the first place.Babbel could definitely step it up in the cons section above, particularly in terms of the languages offered.Fortunately, FluentU is a well -rounded option for nine languages, including one that isnt available through Babbel. FluentU takes a step back from the traditional textbook approach and encourages you to learn in a more natural way. In addition to providing videos, FluentU also offers downloadable audio dialogues and transcripts to use later when youre offline. Plus, the program provides plenty of tools, which can be used to actively practice your vocabulary and grammar, like multimedia flashcards, running vocabulary lists and more.As you build your language tower, youll need multiple tools to get the job done. But, since everyones tower is of a different design, its up to you as to whether or not Babbel is a tool that you need in your tool belt.Sophie McDonald is a freelance content writer with a burning passion for writing and languages. You can find her Twitter page here where she will most likely be talking about writing and languages.

Tutoring Jobs - Are You Sure That The Tutoring Job You Are Looking At Is Right For You?
Tutoring Jobs - Are You Sure That The Tutoring Job You Are Looking At Is Right For You?The Princeton Review reviews the pay and benefits of tutoring managers and has done so for over twenty years. It has evaluated the information available about tutoring jobs and has found that the biggest payoffs come from at-home tutoring and from tutoring with an independent tutor.Tutoring managers are responsible for a myriad of tasks including scheduling appointments, marketing their services, writing out application requirements, selecting and submitting student applications, tracking attendance, creating standardized tests, setting up meetings, and assigning grading options. It's not easy to be a tutor, but the perks do come. One of the top perks is that there is no long-term commitment required to start earning money as a tutor, unless you choose to work part-time.The Princeton Review also reviews the benefits of tutoring. Many benefits come with the position, but only the most reputable, bes t-known schools offer comprehensive benefits. For example, all tutors have access to a portfolio of their work, which is available to all applicants, at no cost. There are also tutoring clubs and support groups, so that tutors can meet other tutors in their own field.By providing their own files, parents and students save money and also know exactly how much they're paying for each tutor hour, or through the purchase of each lesson. In addition, because the courses are available to all students, at no cost, there is a far more affordable, tailored tutor environment for students who need professional tutoring. The main benefit is the financial one, because after taxes, it's possible to earn up to six figures on an hourly basis. Some tutors earn ten figures! All of this comes after a year of paying your dues and filling out yearly reports to certify that you earned the minimum. So the cost per tutor hour isminimal, and the average tutor make a good living and are free from doing anythi ng that he or she doesn't enjoy. One good reason for hiring a tutor is because of the benefit of having somebody around that will support you during test time. This can be a friend or relative, and may even be someone who works for the school you are attending. It may not be possible to pay for somebody to stay with you while you take tests, so having somebody who is a member of the tutoring community in your corner, can help immensely. There are also tax deductions from your taxes that accrue, allowing you to end up saving more money on your taxes than if you weren't working at all.Ultimately, the Princeton Review, and finds that the big payoff comes from the benefits that come with being a tutor. The rewards are immense and can give you a better income and an enriched life.

This will only confuse you and may cause some doubts in your mind.
